Not ‘till the Next Monday
Fred Matero photographed the great blue heron as we crossed a bridge to access Peapack Brook.
Originally, I intended to write a few short paragraph’s and that’s all, but I couldn’t figure out how to noindex the post without possibly noindexing others.
After all, Fred and I did fish yesterday. We began with the North Branch Raritan, quickly tried Peapack Brook, and only then got smart, because the Passaic River had been stocked the day before.
Even so, I’d figure some fish would be available even almost a week after stocking—as they were last year—but the water was very low and clear.
Not so at the Passaic, except for being very low. It hadn’t been stocked much, but I did catch three trout.
That’s where I left Fred. He went on to fish the Middlebrook, where one of his half dozen or so trout was about 17 inches long. He did a selfie of himself with that fish, but I’m holding onto it for possible use later.
The Middlebrook, too, had been stocked the day before. Fred caught the big one on a Trout Magnet, a black one.
Here’s why I’m posting today instead of Monday. Fred and I leave for North Carolina on Saturday. The Ocracoke beaches are yielding a lot of red drum up to about 35 pounds or better, blues, some black drum, and possibly some pompano. We’ve planned on this trip for years, really, as I’ve been comparing April to October.
By watching the Facebook postings.
I’m not taking my laptop, and we won’t be back until late Wednesday or Thursday. I’ll post the Monday thereafter.
